Job Title: Tool Room Clerk

Location: Duncan, SC

Reports To: Receiving Manager

Job Type: Full-time, hourly (non-exempt)

 

Job Summary: The Tool Room Clerk issues, receives, tracks, and stores the tools, consumables, equipment, and materials used by our fabrication and manufacturing crews. Working under the direction of the Receiving Manager, this hands-on position keeps the tool room, weld wire room, organized, and stocked so the shop floor has what it needs to keep working.

The Tool Room Clerk works with welders, fitters, maintenance technicians, and supervisors every day, and helps the Receiving Manager keep inventory records accurate and tools accounted for.

Key Responsibilities:

Tool Room Operations

· Issue and receive tools, equipment, and consumables at the tool room window, and record every check-out and check-in by employee, project, or work order.

· Inspect tools when they are returned; tag out damaged, worn, or incomplete items and report them to the Receiving Manager.

· Restock consumables such as welding wire and rod, grinding and cutting discs, abrasives, gloves, PPE, and fasteners to set levels.

· Keep shelves, bins, racks, and cabinets clean, labeled, and organized using 5S practices.

· Follow up with employees on tools that are overdue or not returned.

Receiving & Material Handling

· Unload incoming deliveries and check items against packing slips and purchase orders.

· Report shortages, overages, and damaged shipments to the Receiving Manager.

· Tag, label, and put away tools and materials in their assigned locations in the tool room, warehouse, and pipe laydown yard.

· Make sure materials are stored and protected from damage or weather.

· Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment once trained and certified.

Inventory Counts & Records

· Report count differences, low stock, and missing tools to the Receiving Manager.

· Help track inspection and calibration due dates for tools and equipment as assigned.

Safety & Housekeeping

· Follow all company safety rules and wear required PPE.

· Keep the tool room, aisles, and laydown yard clean and free of hazards.

· Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, and near misses right away.

· Perform other duties as assigned by the Receiving Manager.

 

Qualifications & Skills:

Required Skills

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· 2+ years of experience in a tool room, warehouse, shipping and receiving, or material-handling role.

· Working knowledge of the hand tools, power tools, and consumables used in a fabrication or welding shop.

· Ability to read packing slips, purchase orders, labels, and tool or material tags.

· Accurate counting and basic math skills.

· Basic computer skills for entering transactions into inventory.

· Ability to safely operate or work around forklifts and other material-handling equipment.

· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

· Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Preferred Skills

· Experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.

· Current forklift certification.

· Familiarity with pipe, fittings, valves, and welding supplies.

· Experience with ERP, barcode, or tool-tracking systems.

· Experience with 5S or Lean practices.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

· Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, climb, and work around stored materials and equipment for a full shift.

· Ability to lift and move materials and tools within the requirements of the position and applicable safety procedures.

· Ability to work outdoors in the pipe laydown yard in varying weather conditions.

· Ability to work around forklifts, cranes, trucks, fabrication equipment, and other industrial machinery.

· Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, safety footwear, hearing protection, gloves, and other PPE as required.

· Overtime may be required based on inventory and operational needs.
